PROJECT SUMMARY The Head Office Complex of Central Bank of Nigeria is 13-storey building of 4 wings.

The mechanical Engineering Services on the CBN Head Office Complex Project consist of the following:
1. Heating, Ventilation and Air-conditioning (HVAC) system.
2. Plumbing systems
3. Vertical Transportation System
4. Kitchen Services
5. Fire Fighting and Protection System
6. Fuel Dump System

1. HEATING, VENTILATION AND AIR CONDITIONING (HVAC) SYSTEM
The system consists of 8No air cooled packaged liquid chillers capacity 1171KW each:

  • 64No Air Handling Units
  • 538No Fan Coil Units
  • 28No Primary and Secondary Pumps
  • 25No Extractor Fans. All the above with their associated ducts and pipe network. The system are all centrally controlled through the use of Building Automation System (BAS).
    The HVAC System alone is worth 1.1 billion Naira.
2. PLUMBING SYSTEM:

The sanitary system designed consists of portable water supply network, drainage networks, sewage treatment plant, water treatment plant, irrigation system and decorative fountains.

Over 450 WCs, 600 wash basins, 180 urinals were designed for and installed in the building. These are apart from other special items that constitute modern conveniences in offices

3. VERTICAL TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM

The Mechanical Services design included also 15No Lifts both for personnel and goods. Two Escalators for passengers and a dumbwaiter for kitchen services were included in our design.

Under vertical transportation system we also designed, for the maintenance of the Building; equipment such as cleaning cradles, monorail cleaning equipment are for cleaning the external of the building from basement to the upper roof.

4. KITCHEN

An industrial kitchen was designed for and installed to take care of the envisaged 4,500 personnel. A separate executive kitchen was also included in the design.

5. FIRE FIGHTING & PROTECTION SYSTEM

The fire Fighting System designed for the building include the following:

  • Automatic Fire Sprinkler Network (Water System).
  • Hose Reel Network.
  • Gas Fire Fighting System. This includes FM200 automatic system and Co2 Automatic System with their smoke detection and alarm systems.
  • Dry Riser with Fire Brigade Breech Inlets.
  • External Fire Hydrants.
  • Portable and Mobile Fire Extinguisher.
6. FUEL DUMP SYSTEM

A fuel dump system was designed for the building to take care of energy requirement in terms of:

  • Diesel Fuel for generators and trucks.
  • Petrol for other vehicles
A complete fuel station with dispensing and transfer pump system was designed and put in place.

1. Heating, Ventilation and Air conditioning System

The first phase of the system consists 4No air-cooled package chillers each of 198KW cooling load.

    Other requirements are:
  • 24No Air Handling Units (AHU)
  • Ceiling mounted Fan Coil Units
  • 3No, 20KW chilled water pumps
  • Roof Extract Fans
  • Toilet Extract Fans
The second phase consists of 2No, 198KW air-cooled package chillers, 20No Air-Handling Units, Ceiling Mounted Fan Coil Units, Direct Expansion (DX) Air-conditioning units, etc.

2. Industrial Pipework Systems

The industrial pipework systems consist of:
(a) Chilled Water System
(b) Steam/Hot Water System
(c) Process Water System
(d) Compressed Air System
(e) Drainage System

Chilled Water System

The chilled water system consists of 2No., 400KW & 2No. 165KW air-cooled package chillers, chilled water pumps and associated pipework. The system produces the chilled water requirement of the Bank Note Printing Machines.

Steam/Hot Water System

The steam/hot water system consists of 2No. 200Kg/hr Electric Steam Boilers; 432KW oil fired hot water boilers, hot water pumps and associated pipework. The system produces the steam/hot water requirement of the Bank Note Printing Machines.

Process Water System

The process water system consists of filtration units; break tank, 6l/s hydro-pneumatic booster pumps and associated pipework. The system produces the process water requirement of Bank Note Printing Machines.

Compressed Air System

The Compressed Air System consists of 450l/s air-cooled rotary screw compressors, air receiver, pre-filter, refrigerated air dryer, after filter and associated pipework. The system produces the compressed air requirement of Bank Note Printing Machine.

Drainage System

The system consists of PVC drainage pipework to drain the treated effluent from the Bank Note Printing Machines.

6. Borehole/Water Treatment Plant

A 10m3/hr capacity Borehole/Water Treatment Plant has been provided to back-up the water supply from public utilities.

7. Sewage Treatment Plant

Diffused Air Activated Sludge Sewage Treatment Plant of 27.0kg/day BOD, 16.0m3/hr flow capacity has also been provided to treat the wastewater from the factory complex.

8. Fuel Dump System

Fuel Dump for the factory consists of 2No, 66,000 Litres Diesel Tanks, 2No, 66,000 Litres Petrol Tanks, 2No, Dispensing Pumps and Associated Pipework.

9. Bank Note Destruction System

The system has been provided to handle the destruction of Bank Note.

10. Kitchen Services

An industrial kitchen/canteen to cater for about 2000 workers is provided.

ELECTRICAL SERVICES

1. 11KV Reticulation Network

The factory complex is designed to take its supply from the public utility (NEPA) at 33KV with the following elements making up the entire network:

  • 2No 5MVA, 33/11KV Power Transformers
  • 33KV Metering and Protection Panel
  • 11KV Breaker Panels
  • 1.5KM of 1600KVA 11/0.415KV Distribution Transformers
  • 2No, 1000KVA 11/0415KV Distribution Transformers
  • 2No, 800KVA 11/0415KV Distribution Transformers
  • 2No, 500KVA 11/0.415KV Compact Transformer Substation
  • 2No, 5-way Type 'SE6CE2' Ringmaster Range of Ring Main Units (RMU).
  • Main Low Voltage Switch Board Panels
  • Associated Low Voltage Cables
The total transformer installed capacity for the factory is 8400KVA.

2. Internal Electrical Works

The Internal Electrical Works consist of the following:

  • Lighting/Illumination System
  • Low Power Socket receptacles system
  • Emergency Lighting System
  • Power supply receptacles to machines via load break switches.
  • Compound/Security Lighting System
3. Standby Power Supply System

The standby power supply system designed for the factory is 3No, 2Megawatts (2MW) 11KV Base load Generators for heavy duty use. The three generators are synchronized onto the 11KV switchgear panels, from where they are pumped into the reticulation network.

The system is fully automatic and as soon as there is main/phase failure, the three (3) engines shall start and synchronize and supply the entire load and with the help of the load sharing panel, the load is shared equitably among the running plants. Upon mains return, the engines are automatically signaled to stop and the load transferred by to mains while the system resets itself for the next operation.

4. Telephone System

The telephone system for the factory deploys the use of Siemens - HICOM 300E Digital Electronic PABX Equipment for 300 Extensions and 100 Direct Lines.

5. Security Package Systems

The Security Package Systems consist of the following system:

  • Fire Detection and Alarming
  • Public Address System
  • Automatic Access Control System
  • Automatic Guard Tour Control System
  • UTV/Surveillance System
6. Equipotential Earthing Circuit

These consists of Earthing grid using copper tapes, Earth Rods, Disconnecting link and Earth bars for terminations, bare copper conductors etc. The reinforcement of the buildings at each grid line are designed to be welded to the Earth tape.
